World Vision Has a Vital Role in Providing Aid in War-Torn Ethiopia

We Planet Earth (WPE) is an Ontario nonprofit that undertakes charitable fundraising activities in support of organizations such as Plan International Canada, UNICEF, and Oxfam Canada. Another group that We Planet Earth has spearheaded campaigns on behalf of is World Vision, a Christian humanitarian organization.

One region where World Vision has an on-the-ground presence is Ethiopia, where a destructive civil war has flared throughout the first half of 2021. As the situation worsened in June, staff became cut off from the outside world and communications were compromised.

With the situation worsening in Tigray, where the local organization is based, the acting National Director of the Ethiopian World Vision mission welcomed a ceasefire announced in late June. Staff members were described as carefully assessing the situation, and reluctant to leave at a time of extreme local need. Instead, they were eager to return to the job of delivering vital assistance and aid within a region in which children face particularly serious hardship. At the time of the announced ceasefire, an estimated 5.2 million Ethiopians required assistance, while 63,000 had escaped to Sudan and one million had been displaced internally.

Save the Children’s Approach to Education Interventions

Classmates Friends Bag School Education

Passionate about transforming the global culture, We Planet Earth consists of a group of philanthropists gathering funds to enhance the lives of individuals in numerous countries across the world. Through its fundraising efforts, We Planet Earth supports the work of organizations such as Save the Children.

Recognizing the vulnerability of children and the countless ways they suffer from violence and deprivation, Save the Children seeks to answer the need of each young heart to feel loved and to find hope for the future. As part of this mission, it spearheads educational interventions in rural America and in countries across the globe.

In 2018 alone, Save the Children provided education to approximately eight million children and over the past decade the organization has reached 273 million children. Its programs allow more children to attend school, and also facilitate skills learning for those already in school.

In addition, the group focuses on the early years of a child’s life in order to enhance brain development in those from birth through age six. These years are critical for children as they grow and learn skills that will enable them to succeed once they reach school age.

Empower Children through Sponsorship with Plan International Canada

Founded by Miles Duggal in Ottawa, Ontario, We Planet Earth seeks to transform the global community by raising funds for efforts ranging from the elimination of poverty to supporting social justice. We Planet Earth places these funds at the disposal of organizations such as Plan International Canada.

An organization created to defend children’s rights, Plan International Canada seeks to empower young people to achieve their full potential, and to remove any obstacles in their paths. Its sponsorship program offers the opportunity for concerned individuals to become personally involved in this mission.

Sponsorship helps children around the world rise above poverty, giving them and their families hope. In addition to providing financial assistance, sponsors also offer a personal connection by writing letters to their sponsored children, and even visiting them to experience life in their communities.

Plan International Canada offers an online system where sponsors can access their individual accounts with details about their sponsored children. Benefits include frequent updates on the results of their sponsorship and past pictures of the children, showing how they have changed through the years.

The Valuable Work of Amnesty International

Founded by Miles Duggal, We Planet Earth seeks to address a diverse range of global issues, such as seeking to end poverty, from its headquarters in Ottawa, Ontario. With a committed team of skilled individuals, We Planet Earth focuses particularly on raising funds for its partner charities, such as Amnesty International.

Created to campaign against human rights violations, Amnesty International believes in the power of individuals coming together in a movement to secure justice for all. Now consisting of more than seven million members, the organization has spoken up for indigenous peoples, caused the modification of unjust laws, and secured freedom for those imprisoned for expressing their beliefs.

Amnesty International invites everyone across the world to join in its efforts for justice. Together, its members can make their voices heard in a way that no individual could do alone. They can also participate by sharing their thoughts and ideas on how the organization should approach different issues.

Save Dolphins from Captivity with World Animal Protection

We Planet Earth supports philanthropic organizations and charitable initiatives around the world. Over the years the team at We Planet Earth has engaged with several charity groups, including Save the Children, World Vision, and World Animal Protection.

World Animal Protection International performs several valuable animal rights initiatives, such as campaigning against some of the world’s most egregious, systemic offenses against the animal kingdom. Expedia Group, for example, is a corporation that profits off of a multi-billion dollar captive dolphin industry. Expedia, along with other operators in this industry, uses these profits to deceive the public into believing captive dolphins are happy and healthy.

In reality, dolphins kept at sea parks and similar venues are forced to live in enclosures up to 200,000 times smaller than their natural territory. Training methods frequently utilize the withholding of food, to say nothing of the age at which dolphins, highly intelligent and social animals, are removed from their mothers and the rest of their pods. Despite the many challenges captive dolphins face, the industry takes advantage of the fact that dolphins naturally appear to be “smiling” as a way of selling captivity to the general public.

Oxfam’s Behind the Prices Scorecard Brings Change to Global Retail

Founded by Miles Duggal, We Planet Earth is staffed by a group of skilled fundraisers who are using their talents to support charities that have an impact across the globe. One of the nonprofits We Planet Earth raises awareness of and mobilizes resources for is Oxfam International.

Oxfam International is at the forefront of a global movement to end poverty. The organization is fighting poverty by, among other things, highlighting the unjust work practices of large corporations. Since 2018, for example, Oxfam has been on a campaign to get big supermarkets in the US and parts of Europe to take accountability for the human suffering in their supply chains. The organization launched a Behind the Prices scorecard that uses publicly available data to evaluate the practices and policies of the 16 largest supermarkets in these territories, scoring them on their efforts to protect workers’ rights and smallholder producers.

The first scorecard released in 2018 showed supermarkets showed little concern for transparency as well as workers’ and smallholder producers’ rights. However, one year after Oxfam released its findings, which prompted over 200,000 consumers to demand action from the retailers, the 2019 scorecard showed retailers were making improvements in those areas. Average transparency rating improved from 5 percent to 17 percent, workers’ rights ratings improved from 12 percent to 18 percent, and retailers like Albert Heijn and Jumbo from the Netherlands and Aldi South from Germany published new policies on human rights. Eight other retailers took actions to address policies that could lead to worker and smallholder producer abuse.
